Can I share an update with you?
Friends,
We’re in the home stretch.
Early voting in Kansas starts tomorrow.
Election Day is just three weeks away.
And our final FEC deadline of the race is tomorrow at 11:59 p.m..
That’s what makes what I’m about to share with you so important.
I just got an update from my finance team, and they shared some news that has me worried: With only one day until the deadline, we’re still short of our $2,000,000 fundraising goal. Will you give me just three minutes to explain why this is so important?
When I got into this race, Roger Marshall and his allies didn’t think I stood a chance of winning. But over the last few months, things have changed in a big way. Here’s where we stand today:
Polls show me with a narrow lead over Sen. Marshall.
Multiple election forecasters — from Nate Silver to the Cook Political Report to Steve Kornacki — are now calling this race a toss-up.
Roll Call officially named Marshall one of the most vulnerable senators in the country.
That all sounds like really good news — and it is — but it comes with a downside. The top GOP super PACs are pumping millions of dollars into this race to drown us out on the airwaves and crush our movement. In fact, they just launched a massive ad buy to tear me down just as the first Kansans are casting their ballots. And it seems their attacks might be working: The latest polls show the race is tightening.
That’s why we made the decision to raise our fundraising target and set this $2 million goal. We have to be able to fight back against their attacks and make sure that Kansans know the truth: I will stand up for them against the corrupt and chaotic policies that are driving up prices, hurting our families and making our lives harder.
But here’s the thing — and it’s why I’m worried right now — if we miss our goal, we’ll have to make some hard decisions about our own ad buys, not to mention our voter outreach, right at the most critical moment of this entire campaign.
If we miss our goal, Sen. Marshall and his supporters will almost certainly take it as a sign that our grassroots movement is losing strength. If that happens, they’ll likely double down on their attacks by increasing their spend and their ads, all in an effort to prop him up as voters head to the polls. Without the resources to fight back, we could lose our narrow lead and our chance to give Kansans the leadership they deserve.
Friends, I wish I had better news to share with you today, but the reality is that a lot hinges on us reaching this goal.
But it’s not all doom and gloom, I promise. There is some good news: After hearing from thousands of people across Kansas, watching multiple election experts shift this race in our favor and seeing polls that show me ahead of Sen. Marshall, I know we can win this.
After being endorsed by six Kansas governors across the political spectrum, Roger Marshall’s primary opponent Arch “Pond” Naramore, and thousands of people just like you, I know we can win this.
And after seeing Roger Marshall spend his time in Washington rubber-stamping policies that hurt the very people he was elected to represent, I know we MUST win this.
So please, if you’re able, I’m personally asking: Will you chip in anything you can right now to help us hit our goal, show Sen. Marshall once and for all that Kansans are ready for change and flip this seat?
Thank you. Together, I know we can do this.
